Teatro Colón:
A Visual History

A book about a building, a stage and the people who have given it life for more than a century.

The Teatro Colón is one of Buenos Aires’ defining cultural landmarks. The present building opened on 25 May 1908 with Aida by Giuseppe Verdi, after almost two decades of construction.

This visual history follows the theatre through architecture, performance, production and memory. Photographs, documents and archival material become a way of reading the building and the changing life around its stage.
